PTA Information and Frequently Asked Questions

Back to School

Why Join PTA?

  • PTA is the parent and teacher organization that helps our students have an exceptional school experience in social and seasonal events above and beyond the amazing things happening in our classrooms.

  • Your membership dues help pay for school parties, evening celebrations, additional classroom supplies, teacher grants, and much more that support our school community.

  • If possible, PTA members are asked to help out at events during the school year (not every event), depending on your skills, interests, and availability. We can have a limited number of volunteers during the school day, and you will need to have a background check completed through the district. You can call the school office for more information.

What does PTA do?

  • PTA funds, organizes, and plans events throughout the year including the book fairs, fall and spring carnivals, classroom parties, snowman shop, and more.

  • The PTA board, teachers, and administrators plan a calendar of events for the year and a budget.

How is PTA funded?

  • The funds are provided through membership dues, party fund payments, donations, and fundraising.

What happens at PTA meetings?

  • During PTA meetings, the board discusses the current budget, upcoming and recent expenses, upcoming events, and planning that needs to take place to prepare these events.

What does it mean to be a “room parent?”

  • Room parents will be PTA’s primary contact person when planning classroom parties (winter holiday party and Valentine’s party), and treating the teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week, along with any other classroom activities during the year.

When are PTA meetings?

  • PTA meetings are currently held on the 2nd Thursday of each month:

    • October 14th 6pm

    • November 11th 6pm

    • January 13th 6pm

    • February 10th 6pm

    • March 10th 6pm

    • April 14th 6pm

  • Others may be added if needed for special events or committees

Who do I ask with additional questions?

You can contact us at Ptasherwood@gmail.com with questions, or call the Sherwood office and they will relay a message to our board.

President

Kayla Baker

This will be my third  year on the PTA board. Being part of the PTA allows me to help bridge that gap between families and the school. The opportunities that the PTA has to offer is amazing to me and I am thrilled to be part of it. I have three kids at Sherwood (2nd,  3rd and 4th grade). I have one kiddo at Carver in 7th and a Freshman at Parkview. I also work for the Boys and Girls Club full time.

I work for the Willard School District and am working on my certification for Elementary Education.  I graduated from College of the Ozarks with a B.S. in Early Childhood Development. Super excited about this upcoming school year!

I'm Elizabeth Siebert and this is my first year on PTA. I will be serving as the Secretary. My husband and I moved to Springfield 9 years ago from Texas. I worked for many years as a social worker but have spent the last 7 years being a stay at home mom to our son Henry. I have recently returned to work as a preschool teacher.
